As the world reels and groans
And terror splatters red,
The innocents perish
Father’s mourn
Mothers weep
Brothers cry raw for their lost.
Will the madness never end?
And the ferris wheel rotates silent sorrow.
It’s all seeing eye blinded by the chaos and death march below it’s lofty view.
And the music plays on…
Ignoring the cruel din.
The blistered scabs of the haters propel them
To scar,
To maim,
To kill.
The senseless violence.
The murder of the innocent.
Just an ordinary day shattered into a million tiny pieces,
Like a mirror crashing savage.
Shards rip crimson
All flesh in sight.
And when our world tilts askew
And the crazy becomes common,
And chaos the norm,
And courageous Christians are challenged to renounce their faith or die.
Terror rages.
While the music plays on…
Drowning out the tears
Muffling the sounds of anguish,
Numbing our senses
Desensitizing our reactions.
And the shroud of apathy descends.
It’s easy for me to sit in my comfortable chair in my air-conditioned home and treat all the pain in the world as unreal as a movie in a theater. It’s not that I don’t care.
With each news brief of terrorist attacks, my gut clinches and I feel sick at the evil flood. But instead of staring at the TV, taking in as much footage as I can glean, I don’t watch any of it. It is too heart-rending to take. Self preservation kicks in. And I distance myself. And I choose to not dwell on the pain.
And the music plays on…
And I feel so helpless. But there is one thing I can do. So I beg you to join me.
Please pray five things with me:
1. Pray for the victims and their wrecked families.
2. Pray for our broken world that we may find peace.
3. Pray for the refugees with nowhere to lay their heads, that they may find shelter and someone to care.
4. Pray for Christians overseas, when faced at gunpoint with the decision “convert or die,” will have the courage to look at death’s sharp teeth and still say NO.
5. Pray for our leaders who must navigate these turbulent waters that are now our world.
And as you breathe deep and sit in stillness,
Find the peace of God deep within.
Only he can sustain you.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
And as the music plays on…
Let it be a reminder of love victorious
And all that is good and beautiful
Under God’s starry sky.
