Solar Eclipse: Three Truths to Remember When Life in a Dark World Overwhelms You

We looked like a bunch of goofies trading paper kiddie glasses around the semi-circle. Standing on the packed red earth at a massive new construction site, we gathered curious. Two designers, two carpenters, a flooring tech, a site manager and I have no idea who the random person to my right was.

Unprepared, not a one of us professionals had eclipse glasses, but it was our lucky day, two of the construction workers did. One by one we drifted outside. For me it was by accident. I was looking around for my help and noticed everyone had filtered out the front door. Then it dawned on me…it must be local eclipse time.

It was kinda a big deal,

The first total eclipse coast to coast in the last ninety-nine years. A few minutes earlier, in the newly sheet-rocked office, we watched it’s west coast occurrence on my phone screen from a Nasa broadcast.

The power of the sun is amazing. Though the moon covered seven-eighths of the sun here in Oklahoma, the sliver that still shined bright was enough to prevent darkness. The sky became like early dusk, just barely dimming, and then in a minute all was bright again.

I expected more darkishness.

Even in the pictures I saw of the total eclipse, a brilliant halo surrounded the moon as it tried to obscure the sun to no avail. I had forgotten what the bible said about the sun until I began researching for this blog.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. The sun’s brilliance can never be totally covered.” Psalm 19:1

And like my Lord, his light can never be dimmed.

He IS a big deal.

“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19

When the world becomes darker, and life careens out of control, and Satan tries to build a wedge and break you down low,

When his whispers echo,
“You can’t,”
“You will never,”
“You aren’t enough,”

Remember these three truths:

1. You have a Savior whose brilliance will dispel the darkness. It may seem dim for a moment or five, but as long as this earth remains, his sun will always prevail.

2.  Our Lord will always shine a light of promise in our souls.

3.  “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

And let peace flood your soul as you walk by faith.
