The sun peeked bright above the horizon of a sleepy city, and I was supposed to be writing. But when the newsfeed danced across my screen, I couldn’t help but click. Before I knew it, I was submerged, and twenty minutes vanished in a flash. With much effort, I had to pull myself back to the task at hand. Buh-bye royal wedding.
Several friends rose in the wee hours of the morning, and donned gloves and adorable hats, and sipped tea in dainty porcelain cups while viewing. Did you watch it? Or at least sought out clips or photos?
Why are we so curious about a royal wedding thousands of miles away? Is it because the newest royal hails from America? Or is it just the wonder of anyone marrying a real-life, high-profile prince.
Harry, dubbed the people’s prince, struggled in his roll and acted out in bad boy ways. The cruel paparazzi had a field day with him over the years. He was genuine and open about his pain in the loss of his mother, and in the midst of all his mess, he became relatable to us. Because of his honesty. Because of his mistakes. And because of his love for a regular gal. A gal who rescued him from a lonely life of excess.
His life changed that day.
Changed forever.
And we are swept away because we have another fairytale. A modern fairytale.
An American, an actress, divorced. Three whammies for royals that would have been insurmountable in years past. Aka ex-King George and Wallis Simpson. A monarchy seeped in centuries of protocol and tradition, a nobody by royal standards, yet she was chosen. A commoner like us, with an American accent and American ways.
A seeming Everest to climb,
Yet it didn’t matter. Love conquered all.
Her life changed that sunny May day amongst carriage rides and castles.
Changed forever.
And we were enamored. Her success gives us hope in love and happy endings. For a few minutes we were swept away in a tsunami of beauty, pageantry and adoration.
And we believe, if only for a moment,
“All you need is love.”
Yet we have a love greater than any prince. A love that wraps us and enfolds us and begs us to wake up and acknowledge the greatest gift in the universe. A gift so amazing it will
Change our life today.
Changed forever.
We have the opportunity to live a real-live fairytale of beloved every day.
Our walk in the physical world often looks anything but storybook-like.
Life on earth is hard. Full of heartbreak, sorrow and pain. But we can put one foot in front of the other a little bit better when we know we are loved unconditionally. When we know we have the ultimate champion on our side.
Once we too were a nobody, not acceptable in his heavenly throne room because of the chains of sin that darkened our souls. But a storybook ending has been planned for us since our beginning. He sent his only son to walk with us and show us what true love looks like. He healed us, and encouraged us, and loved us fierce.
Then he died. A brutal, awful, death at the hand of haters.
Because. He. Loved. Us. So.
Because he wanted to give us what we could not obtain alone. With the piercing of his flesh by thorns, nails and sword, he wiped out the impossible and made it real.
Our very own fairytale. He made us not just somebody, he made us healed and whole and adored.
With God—His grace covers all.
And Love really does conquer all. His Love.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Loree – This is one of my favorite posts. He “loved us fierce”… how beautiful a picture my friend! Thanks for reminding us to mind our own fairytale story in the making.
