Cute, fluffy and grey,
With a long orange bill.
If I had seen the picture without a title, I wouldn’t have known what it was. I’d have supposed some kind of duck, and I would have been way wrong.
It was a flamingo.
Born grey, they get their famous pink color as they grow older, from their diet of algae and shrimp.
That the Dominican Republic is proud of its flamingo flocks is an understatement. Tourist shops explode with them in comically exaggerated colors of red, turquoise and orange.
But I never saw a carving of their most famous stance…on one leg.
All the carvings were two-legged. It was as if they were afraid one scrawny leg wasn’t enough support to hold up that massive body. And they were probably right…the carvers couldn’t make it sturdy enough.
But our God is the God of “Trust me, I can do that.”
I can create a big pink bird with a disproportionate frame, and stick-legs, and balance like no body’s business.
I can create a yellow and black insect with a huge body and tiny wings that don’t look like they should be able to carry him…but they can.
I can create insects with miniature radars,
And elephants with huge ears that can hear things 20 miles away.
I can make the sea part with dry land to walk on,
And send water gushing from a rock to quench parched throats.
I can create a storm on a lake like no other,
And calm it in an instant.
I can raise the dead.
I can send a baby to this broken world through a virgin girl,
To die a cruel death at the hands of those he loved dearly,
Rise from a dark tomb on the third day,
And save our souls.
And I can do for you the things that you can’t wrap your mind around, the things you gave up on long ago, things that you dreamed of doing and being, but you’ve found yourself stuck two-legged in the muck and mire of life.
The impossible.
In a world fraught with “No you can’t,”
Let him lift you to his path
And give you the perfect balance only found in loving him.

Luke 18:27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
-What feels impossible to you?
-Give it to God and let him work. The end result may not look like we had pictured, but we have to trust that he knows best.
