Being Thankful When It’s One of Those Weeks: Husband of the Year Award

To say I was excited was an understatement!

It had been a long day directing a TV commercial for the furniture store I stage, but I finished early. Time to pick up The Preacher and my son for the big game.

It was going to be a great night.
My beloved Thunder was meeting the Spurs in an epic playoff battle.

As I whizzed down the turnpike I heard it, thump, thump thump. I was on the bridge so I coasted clear of it before I pulled over.

I called The Preacher,
“Help!! I’m stranded with a flat tire.”
“How bad it it?”
“I don’t know, with rush hour traffic flying by at seventy-five miles an hour I’m scared to get out and look,
“Ok, sit tight and I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

Bless his soul.

After spying a bent rim, he decided he needed to call someone. With an hour and a half to game time, we figured worst case scenario– he would maybe miss the first quarter. So he sent me on to the game.
Sweet man.

At the end of the first quarter I got a text that the roadside service arrived an hour later than they estimated. And after all that, they took one look and said they couldn’t help. So he was having a wrecker tow it to our home.

By the time the wrecker arrived and did it’s duty, he got home fifteen minutes before I did.

Ten o’clock.

Missed every second of a thrilling game.
Missed an epic victory to clench a position in the next round.
By the end of the evening he had earned Husband of the Year.

But that’s not all…
A week later, after sporting four new tires, I walked out of a client’s home to a flat tire.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Her husband aired it up so I could drive to the nearest service department.

“Mrs. Johns, I have bad news.”
Not again…
“Your wheel is cracked and it ruined your new tire, so you need another new tire and a new wheel. We have to send your wheel out to have it fixed and order a new tire in.” And I thought the first go round was expensive. Sigh…

So guess who took care of it again because I was working out of town for the weekend?
The Husband of the Year.

Thankful, Thankful, Thankful.
